Policy HR07 UNIVERSITY APPOINTMENTS WITHOUT REMUNERATION

PURPOSE:

To recognize the qualifications of certain individuals who perform educational services for the University without remuneration.

ELIGIBILITY:

Persons appropriately qualified who perform a service to the University without remuneration for such services may be recommended.

TITLES TO BE USED:

Three series of titles may be used to designate such personnel, as follows:

  1. Adjunct Status: The term adjunct is to be used only with the academic titles defined in Policy HR21. Reserve Officers Training Corps faculty are included in adjunct status.
  2. Clinical Faculty Appointment: This series of titles is to be used only for medical doctors. The discipline indication shall not be in conflict with department designations at The Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. An example is: Clinical Faculty Appointment in Surgery.
  3. Faculty Associate: This title is available for use in conjunction with University cooperative programs with representatives of agencies or communities, or with similar programs.

    The term Faculty Associate is used with the discipline designation. An example is: Faculty Associate in Welfare Services. Professorial ranks are not used in conjunction with the title Faculty Associate.

PROCEDURE FOR RECOMMENDATION AND TERMINATION:

In making appointments to any of the above categories, deans are to follow established procedures. In addition to the New Appointment (IBIS Form "NAPP"), INS Form I-9 must be completed. Termination of such an appointment, likewise, is to follow established procedures.

BENEFITS AVAILABLE:

A person appointed to any of the above categories is not eligible for tenure, nor does he or she participate in the benefits programs of the University.

ANNUAL REVIEW:

The appropriate administrative officer in each area is responsible to review the appointments without remuneration in his/her area of responsibility, at a minimum, every three years, to determine whether or not the appointment should be continued.
