  • PURPOSE:

    To establish effective dates for pay changes.

    EFFECTIVE DATE FOR PAY CHANGES FOR EMPLOYEES OTHER THAN TECHNICAL-SERVICE:

    Merit Increases

    All merit increases are effective on the same date which is determined on a University-wide basis.

    Training Increases

    > Employees who are in a training status may be granted training increases effective on the first day of the appropriately scheduled month.

    Promotions

    > If a staff member is promoted to an existing or approved new job carrying greater responsibility, a pay increase may occur on the effective date of the staff member's move to the new job.

    Re-evaluation of Positions

    Pay changes brought about as the result of a re-evaluation of a job shall be effective on the first day following the decision made on the re-evaluation.

    EXCEPTION: If a reevaluation takes place as the result of a written appeal, the pay change takes place on the first day following the date the written appeal was filed.

    NOTE: Normally, the dean or administrative officer is responsible for providing funds for upgrading through re-evaluation.

    EFFECTIVE DATES FOR PAY CHANGES FOR TECHNICAL-SERVICE EMPLOYEES:

    Normal Progressions Through the Plans

    Pay increases are effective on the first day of the pay period in accordance with the guidelines of the salary plan. (For technical-service employees, a payroll period consists of two weeks.)

    Re-evaluation of Jobs

    Pay changes brought about as the result of a re-evaluation of a job shall be effective on the first day of the pay period following the decision made on the re-evaluation.

    EXCEPTION: If a re-evaluation takes place as the result of a written grievance, the pay change is retroactive to the date the grievance was filed.

    NOTE: Normally, the dean or administrative officer is responsible for providing funds for upgrading through re-evaluation.

    Promotions

    If a technical-service employee is promoted within or out of the technical-service category, the pay increase occurs on the date of the change of duties.
